Friend-to-Friend Campaigns with Crowdrise

Crowdrise is about online fundraising, event fundraising, volunteering and having the most fun in the world while doing it. They’re making an impact by providing a site where even if the cause is extremely serious, people raising money for that cause could have fun doing it.

In the short time they have been around, they have found that

Making donating fun - through things like badges, game mechanics and point systems - actually works.

The Basic IdeaCrowdrise example: Hall Foundation

Your organization can turn all of your donors, supporters and volunteers into Fundraisers by asking them to create their own free fundraising page on Crowdrise. They can use their personal fundraising page to raise money for your Charity from all their friends and family.

Why Use Crowdrise

  • You keep all of the fundraising and donor data - the donor's email, what project they donated to, and how much they donated
  • You can publically thank donors on Crowdrise for the whole Crowdrise community to see
  • Crowdrise is a good avenue to the younger demographic
  • US-based 501(c)3 nonprofits are eligible to raise money through Crowdrise

There are no start-up fees, but they do deduct 5% on donations and also a transaction fee based on the donation amount. You can be a "Featured Charity" for $299 a year and you will be featured on their homepage and your donors will receive double Crowdrise points for every dollar they donate.

How to Get Started

  • Claim your charity at Crowdrise
  • Create a page (and see if you can beat the alleged standing record of 14 seconds!)
  • Ask your supporters to create their own free fundraising page on Crowdrise and raise money from their friends and family

How to Track Your Donations (which are processed by Network for Good!)

Payment for donations made to your nonprofit are sent on the 15th of each month and will include all donations made in the previous month. For example, donations processed in February will be paid on March 15th. Checks will be sent to your nonprofit's address as listed in GuideStar and you will also see how much money each cause raised for your nonprofit.
