Chief Technology Officer

Position Overview:

Network for Good is seeking an experienced, strategic and hard-working CTO to set and sustain the technical direction of our highly successful, Internet-based nonprofit.  It’s an opportunity to make a great organization even better by ensuring successful execution of Network for Good’s business objectives through development, deployment and execution of the organization’s platform.

The ideal Network for Good CTO is a bright visionary with a proven talent for putting projects into motion, communicating progress, and delivering products on schedule.  The CTO also should thrive on meeting a diverse set of business needs, ranging from consumer-focused products and services to “business-to-business” ASP products for nonprofit organizations. This role will be intricately involved in addressing our greatest current challenge:  considering multiple and ever-increasing double-bottom-line opportunities and optimizing our corresponding technological evolution/direction.

Responsibilities
The CTO’s responsibilities can be grouped into three main areas: strategic planning, operations, and implementation.

Strategic Planning:

As part of the senior management team, the CTO is responsible for establishing processes of direction and control to ensure that objectives are achieved, risks are managed appropriately and the organization’s resources are utilized wisely (especially in the areas of software development, office networks and computers, and telecommunications). Specific responsibilities include:

  • Assess obstacles in the marketplace and technical hurdles to the business success
  • Identify opportunities and assess risks for delivering products and services
  • Collaborate with business managers to assess and recommend technologies that support the organization’s needs
  • Communicate Network for Good’s technology strategy to senior management, board of directors, staff, partners, customers and stakeholders
  • Direct the development and execution of an enterprise-wide information security plan that protects confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the company’s data and servers
  • Evaluate and identify appropriate technology platforms (including web application frameworks and the deployment stack) for delivering NFG’s products and services

Operations:

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technology standards, industry trends, emerging technologies, and software development best practices
  • Define and communicate company values and standards for acquiring or developing systems, equipment, or software within the company
  • Ensure NFG technical problems are resolved in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Develop, track, and monitor the development and deployment of the annual operating budget for purchasing, staffing, and operations
  • Supervise hiring, training and retention of development staff and contractors
  • Ensure internal technological processes and customer-facing services comply with community expectations and applicable laws and regulations for privacy, security, and social responsibility

Implementation:

  • Set and monitor precise, well-communicated deadlines, milestones, and results.  Deliver by example
  • Collaborate with VP of Program Management to develop use cases and specifications that describe the implementation of the company’s service as a web application
  • Collaborate with VP of Program Management to prepare and review User Interface designs and prototypes of NFG’s products and services
  • Manage staff and/or vendors who implement a design as web pages using CSS and XHTML conforming to web standards
  • Manage staff and/or vendors who implement the application ensuring conformity to industry standard coding and testing practices
  • Supervise the software development process, setting short-term objectives and assessing progress, conduct code reviews, and specification conformance testing, conduct reviews of quality assurance procedures including integration and system testing
  • Supervise the selection, deployment, and monitoring of performance profiling tools and procedures
  • Review and approve proposed development releases and manage the release process
  • Supervise application deployment process and supervise deployment to staging and production servers
  • Monitor application performance and review any application failures in staging or production
  • Establish and monitor web analytics regime that measures site traffic and application usage.
  • In collaboration with the VP of Program Management, ensure customer support process and resolution with particular responsibility for Salesforce.com.
  • In collaboration with the VP of Program management monitor the process to support resolution of customer issues and improve software application usability

Position Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to envision web-based applications that meet individual needs and/or solve business problems
  • 10-12 years experience managing web application development
  • Hands-on experience coding in more than one currently popular web application framework
  • Knowledge of and opinions of web standards
  • Experience with open-source stacks and Microsoft .NET, C#, SQL Server technologies
  • Skill with web
    services, SOAP, and REST
  • Experience setting up web development, staging and production environments with commercial applications
  • Knowledge of consumer privacy and payments industry compliance requirements
  • Knowledge of information security vulnerabilities and risk management
  • Familiarity with technical requirements of Internet marketing and search engine optimization

User Interface Designer

Organization and Position Overview:

To support our growing business, Network for Good is seeking an energetic and hard-working User Interface Engineer to be part of a dynamic team of individuals dedicated to helping nonprofits raise funds and communicate with donors online. This individual will report to the VP of Program Management and will work closely with program managers, off-shore and on-shore engineering teams, and occasionally business users. This individual needs to be comfortable working in a complex engineering environment (.NET Platform) that also utilizes Salesforce.com. This individual will be the go-to person for front-end design, development and management. (Note: This position is available for our Bethesda, Md. office.)

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage the overall visual design for the application; create design concepts, rapid wireframes, screen mock-ups and prototypes of interfaces to be used as a blueprint for content and technical development
  •  Work in a matrix team environment that includes product management, software development, quality assurance and information development
  • Work closely with back-end developers to find ways to push the limits of existing Web technology to create the best possible user experience; ensure that the visual structure of the UI remains consistent across multiple components and browsers
  • Lead definition and documentation of style guidelines, design principles and UI concepts

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Graphic Design or Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years professional experience working as a UI engineer implementing web applications
  • 3+ years of experience with Drupal, HTML, XML, SQL JavaScript and C#
  • Experience with SOAP, IIS, and .NET is a plus
  • Experience with Salesforce.com and multi-tenant SaaS preferred
  • Ability to work on tight deadlines and keep up with our fast paced, ever-growing environment

Sales Associate

Organization and Position Overview:
Network for Good is an energetic, young online software nonprofit founded by AOL, Yahoo! and Cisco that aims to be known by every nonprofit in the United States (a.k.a. a $300 billion software market). And we're well on our way, with 50,000 nonprofits raising close to $300 million online with Network for Good’s SaaS (software as a service) fundraising tools. Hundreds more nonprofits join us every month, which is why if you are a sales superstar in the making, we'd love to chat.

We're out to find smart, energetic people with 1-3 years experience to respond to sales inquiries as they come in, lead over-the-phone demos for prospective customers and manage the sales cycle from prospecting to close. As for skills, we're keen on finding someone who is well-rounded, enthusiastic, great with people and comfortable spending lots of time on the phone. The ideal candidate should be able to work independently, make short work of details and take on an unusually high level of responsibility at a fast-growing company. Sales Coordinator, Nonprofit Services

To continue growing our business, Network for Good is seeking an energetic and detail focused Sales Coordinator to be part of a dynamic team of individuals dedicated to helping nonprofits raise funds and communicate with donors online. This individual will be responsible for processing applications, monthly billing and service cancellation requests, as well as maintaining sales and attrition reports. This position will report to our Sales Director and work closely with Marketing and Customer Support staff to improve sales, implement win-back strategies, lower attrition and increase revenue.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Process sales applications and troubleshoot application and activation issues
  • Process service cancellation requests and account deactivations
  • Provide superior customer support via email and telephone to nonprofit customers
  • Develop and maintain accurate sales and attrition reports
  • Work with team to gather marketing intelligence related to customers and improve win-back strategies to keep customer attrition low
  • Manage customer billing, including follow up on billing failures, pay by check customers and ad hoc design charges
  • Participate in weekly customer support and sales calls
  • Assist with special projects pertaining to sales and customer support.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum two years experience in customer or account servicing
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience with working with CRM interface, Salesforce.com preferred
  • Working knowledge of Windows based applications, including Microsoft Office products
  • Working knowledge of the Internet and web-based applications
  • Must have a high level attention to detail and accuracy
  • Must work well across multiple teams: sales, marketing and customer support
  • Understanding of the fundraising and donor management process useful

API Engineer

To support our growing business, Network for Good is seeking an energetic and hard-working API Engineer to coordinate the development of new partner sites, ensure that partners can easily connect and utilize Network for Good’s API, and implement a strategy for working with outside technical partners. The main function of this role is to serve Network for Good’s mission of increasing and facilitating donations to other nonprofits through Network for Good's robust donation processing platform. This role combines technical engineering skills with solid communication and project management skills.

Job Responsibilities

  • Create working code examples in a variety of programming languages for intended developer audience
  • Design, develop and maintain code in .Net/C# developer environment working within a team structure.
  • Create and maintain high-quality developer documentation
  • Work with Partner Marketing team to onboard partners, troubleshoot problems, update documents and code samples to reduce or eliminate issues raised.
  • Work with Partner Marketing team to engage potential customers during the sales process and to provide advice on how to best market the technical aspects of the product and platform.
  • Understand and communicate the architecture of the existing platform and any new platforms introduced at Network for Good
  • Proactively identify technologies that may be useful to existing partners and areas identified by marketing as potential targets

Position Requirements

  • Candidates submitting an application must have legal authorization to work in the United States
  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent experience; approximately 3-5 years of experience
  • Demonstrated experience with .Net, C#, SOAP, XML, SQL, IIS, JavaScript
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience with the challenges of working with outside partners especially troubleshooting SOAP issues.
  • Experience with Salesforce.com is highly desirable
  • Experience working with non-engineers
